The staff should never "play" on the server. As with your databases, you simply share everything and your users browse to it. You can do this with any computer on your network or with a server that is on your workgroup.
This is one of the very nice things of using a client/server setup on a domain. You can set many access rules for each user using fold permissions and NTFS permissions.
So, share it or map it. To be quite honest, if everything is on the server, then aside from maintenance, no one has to ever be on the server including you.
