I am absolutely amazed by where this thread went. But, back to boring reality:
1. Bert-- I don't know why it works that way, but the version of Medware we have only works if you run it as an administrator. If you don't run with admin privileges, you get an error message "Utilities in use", and it quits. If you run as Admin, it works. On any machine at all. If you try to run it on SDS-E, same thing. If you try to run it from an SDS-E client, it will run fine if the client has Domain Admin privileges -- you can't run it as local Admin. I'm done asking why -- it just works that way. It wasn't like that 5 years ago, but it is now.
2. Sandeep-- I'll be looking at one of those ideas for auto backup removal. Maybe a Porsche, maybe a helicopter. Something will work. I think I have this figured out now, and I just need to find a little time to put it all together.
The key to making it work seems to be to use the defaults and the wizards. Any deviation from Microsoft leads into impenetrable thickets. I managed to delete my D drive (meant to delete partitions on the second hard drive, and the mouse pointer missed, and there is no "undo"). It still works fine, except auto backup of the clients doesn't work, and won't come back. No matter -- I'm just practicing, and trying to see how all this works. I'm about ready to deploy.
