Check the security tab of the AC Program Folder. Make sure the account you are using has full permissions.
You could try a repair install using an XP disc. But I'd still recommend the full format. In any case backup the data first. There's no guarantee that all of the programs would work after a repair install.
Personally, I'd just reformat and reinstall.
