Cloud backup should be just one layer of your backup strategy. It should be a last resort.
Backup Strategy
1) Local Onsite Backup - Rapid Recovery. Virus or server goes down. Current method of backing up to external drives is good.
2) Local Offsite Backup - Backup to your home (via the Internet, free seeding) or use rotating drives. The former is better since it doesn't require you to actively swap out drives.
3) Remote Offsite Backup - Backup to a cloud provider: Crashplan, Carbonite, AC, etc. Maybe look for service that offers a seeding service if you have a large amount of data.
