has any one use a tablet pc with amazing charts and the handrecognition software.? is it reliable to substitiute for typing on the keypad? What about using the tablet pc software to put slashes or circle pertinant information thru your text in the template to indicate that it is a pertinant positive finding for example..

I'm using a Fujitsu tablet pc and have been writing notes in amazing charts for quite awhile, while I'm talking to clients, I'm a psychiatrist. It "tries" to make a word out of what I write, usually it is spot on, at other times it makes up some bizzare word I've never seen before, at other times it makes up a word, not the right word. Sometimes it picks the right word but then when I touch the insert button it changes the word from what was displayed in the box to something that might look like it in the text. Very frustrating. It doesn't check grammar or syntax and if the word is a word the spell checker in Amazing charts will assume it is just fine as long as it is spelled correctly, also frustrating.... So I have to proof the note before I save it to the file. I thought about writing the notes in Word, but that is more work. If Amazing charts had a first class spell checker/grammar verifier/punctuation master in it, it would be great. I've ended up with some bad notes when I didn't take the time to proof it before I saved it. I do love the technology. It's fantastic in word or in One Note. I've never used a circle technique. The pen will only do letter recognition in AC to the best of my limited knowledge.

I have used wireless tablets (Toshiba and HP) in my pediatric practice. I type some, and use the pen to bring in templates. More than half of notes are all templated, most of the rest are largely templated. Most notes are done and scripts and superbills printed before I leave the exam room. I tried handwriting recognition briefly, but it was a miserable failure as even my nurse can usu. not read my writing.

I have been using I pad with logmein and is surprisingly fast and responsive...A less expensive option than most tablets which are about double the price for a decent one..

I tried the Lenovo tablet and found it very unfriendly. I like haveing a desktop and a wirelss printer in every exam room. The only hang up is you have to sign in multiple times. The advantage is you travel ight between rooms Mukesh

I have been using a (used) Motion Computing LE1700 tablet and a Lenovo x200 tablet. Got both off Ebay pretty inexpensively.
Both work pretty well. I can take handwritten notes in OneNote, publish to PDF and import them to AC.
That way my handwritten scribbles and any diagrams, etc. that I make are archived in electronic form.
I also use a combination of Dragon voice recognition, AC templates, and some handwriting recognition. I'm getting better and more efficient at all of them, though as noted above, there are some howlers of mis-recognition.
I put orders and Rx's in while seeing the patient, but I tend to review and complete my notes after office hours -- I hate trying to document at the same time I am with the patient -- I find that rude and distracting. Having the PDF's of the notes I take in the exam room is very handy, and is nearly as "natural" as taking notes on paper.
The one problem with the tablets is the miserable battery life (and the heat they generate-- they get pretty warm sitting on my lap.)
