We just upgraded to V5 and were excited about the "Pending Medications" section. However, it doesn't seem to work like we thought.
What would be useful for us is to have it work like the following:
1) Front desk updates any demographics/insurance information on a chart, then forwards to MA. 2) MA takes patient back into exam room and enters vitals, takes basic HPI and also enters the current medications the patient is on. If the patient is requesting a refill on any medication, the MA enters this too and this all goes into the "Pending Medications" section. 3) MA then forwards the chart to the doctor. When the doctor opens the medications list, she can see the "Pending Medications" that the MA input and can update/delete or approve them accordingly.
This is how I thought this works, but when you enter medications to the "Pending Medications" list, they don't get saved when you exit from the medications window. In other words, you can't have one person input the Pending Medications, forward the chart to another person who can re-open this and see which medications are pending to be prescribed.
Are we missing something???
Thanks,
S.K.

I completely agree. I currently am using Care360, Quest Dx's product, which I must say is very well designed in many ways. There is the ability for office staff to create a script which is saved for me as pending, and opens in the same screen as requests from pharmacies for renewals. I just click on the script, edit it as I need to and click "approve", off it goes. Works great and a real time saver for all.

Rich,
So right now, you are using Care360 for e-prescribing but also manually entering the prescriptions into AC as well? Or are you not using the Medications List in AC and just using Care360?
We just got Care360 but haven't really gotten into using it yet, but it sounds like it makes prescriptions much easier. I am assuming it doesn't integrate with Amazing Charts in the sense that you can import prescriptions prescribed through Care360 into the Medications List for the chart.
Thanks,
S.K.

John,
Care360 is a web based application from Quest Diagnostics that is an inexpensive add-on to their free web lab result portal. After my staff enters the drug to be approved or renewed for a patient ( after a call from the patient, as requests from renewals from pharmacies go directly to my homepage), I access my Care360 portal page where there are lists of meds to be renewed or refilled that either came from the pharmacy or from my office staff. I then chose each patient/drug request and either approve directly and send to pharmacy, edit and send or deny. Everyone likes the efficient way in which this frequent transaction takes place.
SK,
We began using Care360 about 10 months ago only recently have stated to implement AC. We are able to send Rx from AC, but renewals will continue to go to Care360 until we have his changed. Given how well Care360 handles these various functions, I will have not made the switch yet and continue to use both programs. That does require some more manual entries and reconciliations in AC; it will be nice at some point in the future to just use AC for this reason. Right now this hybrid works for us.
