I have some patients who have huge files scanned in into the Imported Items section of their chart. Consequently, it takes a long time for the chart to open up. Is there a way that some of these files can either be zipped or somehow "warehoused" so that the chart will open in a reasonable amt of time?

You won't be able to move anything if you want to be able to access it from within the charge. Files imported to x patient will be in x subfolder within your ImportItems folder.
What type of files are you importing? Tiffs, PDFs, Digital photos and x-rays?

Are you talking about a small number of patients? Files you don't often access? If so (or even if not) you could leave the files outside of AC altogether. The files themselves could be stored together in a folder separate from the chart itself. You could put some sort of reminder/marker in the imported items section so you would know to look for the file. A bit less convenient, but then you could open the chart without accessing the big file at all.

The files are all PDF files. We save everything that happens to a pt, including things that we fax out. Some pts have lots of problems and consequently, lots of files in the Imported Items section.

Stokes,
I just thought of something. I am not sure exactly how it works, but I don't see how 1GB of data vs 100GB of data would have any bearing on how fast you are opening your program. How long does it take? Mine takes about 12 to 15 seconds.
When you first open it, do you watch what is being loaded. The imported items are the last thing to load. For me, the words go by in the blink of an eye.
I would simply ask AC, but all of your imported items are in your imported items folder in your Amazing Charts folder. These aren't in the database themselves. You only have a link to them. In fact, if you go into AC and delete one of your imported items, you will still find that item in the patient's folder in the imported items folder. I just don't see where opening your program and its finding all of the imported items with whatever table it is in would take very long. But, as I said, I could be wrong.
One thing you could try is see how long it takes to open your program. Then move the entire imported items folder out of your AC folder and see if it opens any quicker.
Let me know.
