I don't know anything about UPDOX, but I very much doubt it can message "through" Updox.
There are no POP3 and SMTP protocols for Outlook.
POP3 and SMTP are protocols for incoming and outgoing mail respectively. If you email is being handled by an ISP (Roadrunner, Yahoo, Google, etc.) then you will obtain your email using POP3 when the email program retrieves the email from the mailbox on the ISP server and email will be sent through your ISP using SMTP. Your ISP will give you your POP3 and SMTP. The POP3 and SMTP are not related to Outlook. They are used with any email program such as Eudora and Outlook and Thunderbird. These will be entered into the programs along with a username and password.
As far as webmail, this will all be done behind the scenes.

To get a little technical, if one is using Microsoft Exchange, they can setup SMTP to both send and receive. Sending goes through your ISP such as Time-Warner, but unlike POP3, where your email is sent by other people to your ISP and it sits there waiting for you to retrive it every 5, 10 or 15 minutes, email is routed via DNS directly to your Exchange Server and bypasses the ISP altogether.
