Bert gives you good information here, especially based on minimal information about your system and exactly what happened. The most important thing, going forward, is to have a robust back-up system that duplicates back-ups in multiple places.
As to where you are right now: I understand that the 10 notes are not critical. What Bert suggests is that the way you describe the situation, those notes still exist on one of your systems (probably what you call your "server"). You might look for them there and if you find them, print them out. Then simply scan them into your more current version of the program on your laptop.
At some point, be sure to store or erase the older database. As it stands now, you have two different databases with different data, and you don't want to exacerbate the problem by adding more patients or notes to the defunct version.
