I too would suggest support on this one, but one idea that immediately jumped to my mine is the Amazing Sync tool. I believe that is what it is for... Transfering and adding without deleting data when one takes their computer off-site and then has data, encounters and the like to add after returning to the office...
So there should be a way to make good use of this utility tool to make what you need to happen, happen.... But when I first learned about this utility one had to use it to make the traveling copy on the laptop I believe before leaving the office, and then use it again to retrieve and add the new additional data that you wanted to add back from your housecall, road trip... Not 100% sure of all of this which is why I would suggest making good use of your support when it comes to making sure your data is clean and up to date...
BTW, are you able to complete a good back-up now without any problems? To me this is the real problem that should be attended to first.... Otherwise you will be chasing your tail on this for some time to come....
