Chet,
I am confused. Let me see if I understand this.
Your main database is/was on your server (what kind of server/are you on a domain, etc.)
You go to back up the program on the server (from the server) and the server reboots. You do it again, and it reboots again. First, thing, I would never back up from the same computer that your database is on. I would try never to do anything on that server. Back up from a DIFFERENT computer to your server.
Now, you have a good back up from Thursday so everything is GOOD minus 10). And, given the only reason the server rebooted was trying to run Amazing Backup (just back it up with another back up program -- you should be backing up the whole server anyway nightly), the database was still good on the server AND would still contain the Friday data. The 10 progress notes.
Now you move the database from your server to your laptop (that was risky given only 10 notes would have been missing BUT they weren't missing they just weren't backed up. Unless I am missing something, e.g. the server was no good anymore based on the reboots, I would have left everything on the server with ALL of your data on it and then have seen all of your patients today (Saturday) the same way, hence all of your data is still on the server.
The way I see it, you have two choices:
You can continue to use your newly established database and say goodbye to Friday's notes and move on or you can go back to using the database that is on the server, and then type in the notes from today to the server database.
Another way of looking at it is:
You have everything + Saturday - Friday on your laptop
and
You have everything everything + Friday - Saturday on your server
So, keep the server intact, back up from a different computer and make sure you have a very good TOTAL BACKUP every night with a solid, expensive backup program such as Acronis or Backup Assist or the actual server backup program.
What if starting the back up didn't just reboot the server, but it rebooted and the hard drive crashed?
Please point out where I am missing something.
PS Just an FYI from how I do it (not necessarily correct). But, if everything were on the server, just not backed up for ONE day, rather than move all the databases, I would have considered using paper for one morning until I had everything sorted out.
