I think you should do the following. Though expensive would be worth it.
Get a camera put it up there. Get a sensor they would have to hit right as they are stealing it. WHen they touch it an electric shock goes through their bodies (i have a shocker i made in HS if you want to borrow it!) and a recording comes out and says "You are caught! Now I am gonna F&$% Up your life Jagoff!"
