To which folder do you all usually scan hospital records, such as discharge summaries, ER records, hospital H&P?
There is no <Hospital Records> folder among permanent AC folders.
We have been making <Hospital Records> folder, but it is time consuming. It would be nice to be able to set your own set of permanent folders in the Administrative section, instead of creating the same folder again and again.

Apricot, Choose the "Other" folder option and, after scanning, go back in and edit the scanned item. At that point you can change "Other" to anything you want. I brought this up at the ACUC to Jon the programmer. Maybe it will be fixed some day.

I treat them all as consults, list the Dr. name in the subject line, even if it is my name, (my dictation, all the hospital stuff in one spot.) This is why we need the "magic buttons" or Filters. The chart remains "SOURCE ORIENTED" as Dr. Weed complained about it in 1968. You want to organize it by "Problem" but there are things that overlap. The CXR done during the hospitalization is important to your understanding of the hospital case, but you are likely to look at the CXR in the coming year when you are doing the annual exam on this patient who smokes or who had a Breast Cancer 5 years ago. So where should it be filed?
I propose we will have the best chart when it can be filed by source, (the staff put it in without medical insight) so no time is lost. Then the complicated ones will we sorted out with filter keys, (think of postem notes). You will tag EVERTHING about the hospitalization on one key, but the CXR will also get a key for Breast CA and one for Smoking. Then when you consider the patient and their smoking problem, you will see the CXR done during the hospitalization. Likewise for the other Dx.
Where ever you see a Filter Key, (postem note) (It will appear as a symbol anywhere in the chart that you have placed it)you can click on that filter Key. If you are in the PMedHx you can click them there, of anywhere they exist. When you do click the key it takes you to a NEW PAGE that it Temporarily pulls together from all the places you stuck a key (postem note). You see this one snapshot of that condition all gathered into one page. When you close it, all the pieces go back where they belong.
On the CXR there will be multiple keys, click the Breast CA key, then that page assembles, click the tobacco abuse key and the CXR, PFT and visits that you have tagged regarded quiting all come together.
Wouldn't this be cool?

In a side vein, is there anyway one can choose which PDF reader opens an imported PDF file in the Imported Items window? Two of my computers have both Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat loaded on them. The imported pdf files open in AC with Adobe Reader. It would be nice if they would open with Adobe Acrobat as they would then be editable from within AC. But I cannot find how to set Acrobat as the default.

Uninstall Adobe Reader. You don't need it.
Otherwise open:
My Computer --> Tools --> Folder options --> File types
PDFs will be listed as Adobe Acrobat Document
It's helpful if in the Registered file types: if you click on the gray bar where it says File Types so you can get them in alphabetical order.
In your case, it would seem that the Adobe Acrobat Document must be associated with Adobe Reader. Once you highlight the Adobe Acrobat Document, you will see Details for "PDF" extension and under that it will says "Opens with" There is should definitely tell you what it opens with. Either your Reader or Adobe Acrobat. If it's with reader, then click on change and change it. If you don't see the Adobe Acrobat listed then browse to it. It should be in this directory: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat

Apricot, Can you be more specific. I am not sure what you are referring to. Sorry. When you scan a new item to the <Imported Items> you have to select an <Item Type>, i.e. a folder in which the scanned item will be located. There is a limited number of <Item Types> to choose from: <Non-Medical Info> <Batch Import> <Consult> <ECG> <Laboratory> <Operative Report> <Other> <Outgoing Correspondence> <Pathology> <Prior Records> <Radiology> <Spirometry> There is no item type for <Hospital Records> or <ER Records> <Hospital Records> or <ER Records> have to be manually created for each particular patiet. This is time consuming.
