Mr. X's chart is open. Assistant walks in and says she needs an order for Mrs. Y's CT scan. I right click on Mrs. Y's name on the patient's list and click 'Print orders/Requisition slip' and order the CT, print/fax and close. The order now gets deposited in Plan section of Mr. X's open chart. PANIC!!! Look in messages, no messages recording the transaction. Call hospital to see if the order was sent on Mrs. Y and not Mr. X. Hospital confirms that the order is for Mrs. Y. I have no record of ordering the CT on Mrs. Y.

This is not weird at all. It may not be your desired outcome, but it has been this way as long as I can remember. If you open the order writer for patient X while patient Y's chart is open, the order will be printed out as patient X, but will be recorded in patient Y's chart.
You either have to close Y's chart, remember to erase it or ask your nurse to print out the CT scan on her computer.

But come on, being that way or not, just because you big dogs who get around here so well may be used to this and simply "work around" it, doesn't make it right. That really is a serious bug. Cross populating data like that even though you know you entered it in the right place is a classic sign of a bug if ever there was one.....

How is that a serious bug. The correct person get's the correct lab test, and the test goes into the open chart, something I would expect if I ordered a test with the chart open.
As far as I can tell, the process described above is the only instance of an action that should be recorded in a chart. Maybe there is a way for Jon to program it so the lab is sent to the inbox based on the patient ID number. It's strange, because I have used the program now for five years and have never had this issue, although I certainly cannot be sure it didn't happen, and I just didn't see it, which is certainly possible.
For now, I suppose, it is good that this has been brought to our attention, and we can finish the chart we are working on, forward it to our inbox, or delete the data if we are to do this. Again, and this is nothing againt how Zak does it, because I can see needing to order the CT scan correctly, something that isn't always easy to do, but I would just have my staff print it from his or her PC after asking me via message what should be on it. Plus, since it does go to my inbox, I can see rather quickly what was ordered and how.

And, I think it should be big DOG and not DOGS. I am the only one with the alternate opinion. And, it is only a comment -- not meant to be judgmental of Zak, Brian or Adam, three AC users I very much respect.

I had noted this long ago - it is important that we all just submit a bug report so it will be fixed. They really do watch the bug reports - sometimes they don't have time to look here. If everyone reports it as a bug they will notice. I also think we should all use the suggest improvement button more on the program.
I actually talked to a support person once and they said that they came here occasionally, but they needed to get thicker skin because it actually made them feel upset that people were upset with them.

Well,
1. They should read the thread where we give them positive feedback.
2. It goes with the territory.

I agree - but we do need to use the bug button - I sent one, Jon looked at it and fixed it within a day. I have had very good luck with support myself.

Bert, I take no offense at "DOG not DOGS.' You are the AC BIG DOG. I'm just an AC Pup. Physically, I'm a "BIG BOY," not casting double ententres here, I'm physically tall and wide. But I'm no AC Big Dog. The guy w/ over 1,400 posts on the message boards holds that title.

I agree with you completely Steven. And, I do think it is always important to remember the positive as well, as you have above.

We talked to the help desk told us this is a quirk that happens when the note is opened from the schedule. They are aware of the problem. They suggested a work around until the problem is fixed-open the progress note from the list of patients.
We have found that when cross population occurs billing information gets lost and/or the entire note gets lost. It would be nice if at least the vitals on a note were automatically saved so a note could be recreated if it gets eaten by a quirk.

Vicki,
If this "quirk" is the problem with the orders going into the open chart, it happens with all charts; not just charts opened from the schedule.
While I always choose to delete the chart from my inbox after I open a chart from my inbox, you can choose to leave it there, therefore preserving your vital signs and any other information entered by your MAs.

Hi Brian,
I wasn't talking about choosing to save a copy of an already opened note from the inbox. Cross population can occur when the note is opened for the first time by clicking on their name in the schedule. That is why they told us to start the note from the list of patients, not by clicking on it. I think it has still happened a few more times.
