Every once in a while when closing the program I get a message that there is an open chart and if I close program I will lose information. Problem is there are no open charts. So I close the program hoping I am not losing any data. Is this a situation I need to be concerned about? Am I losing data when I close the program?
Thanks
Dru

The only data you would possibly lose would be the data in the open chart. And, even then, you may be able to recreate it.
AC is pretty good about keeping track of open charts, though.

I've run into this situation several times and have closed the program with no data lost. Just make sure you don't actually have any charts open.

If you hover over the minimized icon on the taskbar, it should show you what is open. I don't know how many times, I have clicked on the prescription writer ten times wondering why it is so slow only to find it already open. It will be barely showing under the main icon to the right.

Bert are you talking about the minus sign icon on the upper right next to the staggered box icon and the red X icon? If so when I hover over it I get nothing but I noticed that when I have a chart open there is a small light symbol on the upper left corner of the schedule Icon just beneath the "file" is this what you are referring to.
Thanks

My question for you, Dru, is why are you closing the program? Logging out, sure, but there is rarely a reason to close.

If you lock your computer before you go or just let the screensaver/lock happen, then just leaving it open is fine, but my staff always log off so AC would close anyway.

You are referring to the minimize and the full screen button and the exit "x" button. I am referring to the taskbar at the bottom of your screen that shows all of the programs that are open. Hover the purple AC icon to see what windows are open. The program may not be minimized and in view on your screen, while the chart you have open is minimized. If you look closely at the purple folder, you will notice it isn't just one folder. There is a second folder residing behind it, and you can see a small section of the right side of the chart protruding to the right. That is the open chart. If you hover over the icon shown below, it will pop up two 1.5 inch replicas of the charts. You can hover over those and go back and forth and see both pop up on your screen. ![[Linked Image from achelp.amazingcharts.com]](http://achelp.amazingcharts.com/ub/attachments/usergals/2018/10/full-4-1048-taskbar.png)

Bert: I see it. Yes this is how I usually see if there is an open chart. So I guess there maybe a glitch in my system where I will get "the notice" even though there are no charts open. Now I do have unsigned charts in the messages and I have many of them parked there usually over a hundred, and perhaps the system is having a hard time managing these parked charts. Why do I have a hundred. Two reasons some are no shows and many of those I have transferred data from soapware and if I close the chart I will lose the data so I keep them in the messages until the patient reschedules so I don't have to redo the info. This is something that is a pain with AC it won't keep data in the chart without signing off, except in the smoking and family and medication history. The other charts are charts I will see in the coming week, that I review and make notes prior to seeing the patient, this is something I will probably end soon. Now that I am getting more familiar with AC and have less and less patients that are new whose data is still in soapware.

I hear you. However when I do get the message I get it if I close or log out.

Dru, You might be right... I suspect that occasionally when I try to log off, I get that message, too. Or maybe I am just not looking hard enough to see what is open. From now on I will look more carefully to see if it is really a bug. Meanwhile, I agree with those above who say you do not need to worry about losing data in that situation (other perhaps than in the open chart).
I can tell you that having many unsigned charts in the messages really does not present a problem.
I understand why you have those charts that are left open on no-shows. When that happens, why not just put "no visit" or "preliminary chart" in the chief complaint field and sign-off on them with no charge. The "no visit" will show up in the past encounters listing (and will not confuse you into thinking the patient was actually seen) and then you have the satisfaction of getting those charts out of your message list.

Thanks for the advise. I may have to start doing exactly what you say.

My method is to send those charts to Providers Box. They are out of my active working box, but they are saved. When the patient does come in, and I try to open a new chart, I get a pop up message advising me of a chart already in a box. Then, I just forward them back to my working box.
