Since the all the tech superstars on the Board have real lives, and a probably are out surfing, clubbing, etc., I'll give this a shot:
There is a lot of technical stuff out there. Just google "HIPAA & WLAN".
My non-techie understanding of basic WiFi security is:
1. secure the physical location of the wireless access point/router and all the wireless devices,
2. WPA2 authentication and
strong passwords for the router, and required for any wireless device to connect,
3. a password protected EMR (ie: AC), and
4. train your staff on data security.
Unless you do the above, you aren't any safer connecting via LogMeIn when you are within your office WiFi network. You can still get unauthorized access. LogMeIn has
this document answering HIPAA concerns, in case you want to connect over the internet from home, Starbucks, etc.
