I've been trying to install AC 7 on Win 8.1. It went well on my ultrabook that had a native install. When trying to install on my desktop, it won't. The desk top started out as Win 7 and then was updated to Win 8 and then Win 8.1. Each time I try to install it comes to a point where it says I must update my database. It then refers me to a site that says "this site is for paid clients only and then quits. Then I'll start again and it'll say I have the newest database installed and then while installing it'll go through the routine again about not having the right database. I'm trying to see if I can set up AC so that I have a base server and then use my 11" Dell 2in1 flipbook with it but can't get the program installed on the main desktop. Thanks

Welcome to Windows 8.1. Nothing worked right after updating...not my webcam, not my encryption...have fun uninstalling and reinstalling all your drivers and generally pulling out your hair! I wish I had better advice but that's what finally fixed most of my problems.

Let this be a warning to everyone else to not upgrade unless you have to!

For everyone, I do hope that W10 turns out to be far more sane than W8 (aka WAIT!). If so, then W8 can do down in hsitory as somewhere between Windows Me and Vista.

There is a reson that W8 is still banned in many enterprises, and corporations are still buying machines with W7 installed, evn if they pay to have them downgraded (aka right-graded).

Robin, did the problems reported (webcam not working, encryption problems) happen after AC was installed or after Windows 8.1 was updated. Please specify.

If you want to upgrade to Windows 8.1, it's best to have a good procedure for the process. IT Companies go through a whole checklist before performing a systems upgrade. Here's a few:

1. Does the current machine have the necessary drivers for Windows 8/8.1? OEM computers like Dell/Lenovo are unlikely to add driver support for newer OS if the computer is old. Custom-built PC's will likely have driver updates available through the motherboard maker (e.g. Gigabyte, Asus, etc.)

2. Do the drivers exist for the peripherals? This was a big one for people switching from XP to 7. A lot of people went with 64 bit Windows instead of 32 and found later 64 bit drivers didn't exist for their printers and scanners.

3. Decide if an in-place upgrade or full reformat is appropriate. If you're switching from a 32 bit to 64 bit architecture, your only choice is to reformat. Also consider if your hardware meets the necessary specifications.

I believe it's asking you to run the database tuner. It sounds like you have an older copy of AC with SQL installed on the computer. The database tuner is available on the client portal. You do not need to upgrade to Win 8.1 to run the new version of AC. You may want to try running that first.

In addition to the above, I would suggest that you consider installing AC Version 8, rather than V7. Most people will be migrating to AC V8 in coming months (due to ICD-10) and there is little reason to install 7 at this point (IMHO).

Currently, the installer does not work on W10. AC is aware and it is on their radar after getting 8.2 out the door.

I, for one, did not have a lot of issues with w8 or w8.1, but I did testing of all the essential programs before moving in that direction. See Sandeep's post above!

Very true. Incremental upgrades go much faster, so going from 8.0.2 to 8.2 would be much faster than 7.x.x to 8.2

BTW the upgrade page has been updated and is much more straightforward. V8.0.2 has been posted and is the official "latest version"

Use a test computer (home computer or such) do a backup/restore of database (don't worry about the import items, they just slow everything down) Then do an upgrade from 6.6.7 to 8.0.2. See how things go before doing the real thing.

I would say, you may not see a big change in speed, but Raj reported issues in upgrading fro 6.6.7.
