Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional 13 http://www.knowbrainer.com/NewStore/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=28 was released this morning and Nuance has decided to temporarily sell upgrades from Pro 11/12 at the lowest introductory price ever (normally 299.99 now 149.99). They have also decided to extend this low pricing (normally 399.99 now 199.99) to Premium 11/12/13 to Professional 13 upgrades. This pricing is good through September 2014.

Dr. Duncan,
DNS Pro 13 will not work for direct dictation into AC. I still have a few docs that use Premium and Pro despite this so I decided to announce the release. Pro is a 600.00 product, 400.00 to upgrade from Premium. This 200.00 offer is a great opportunity for those that want to add network support and macro capability to $ave some money while doing so.

Tom -- You and your organization have been a great deal of help to me, and I hope you stay on this forum because no matter how good Dragon is, it isn't like having a transcriptionist -- your experience and patience helped get me through the early frustration.
The major problem with EMR of course, is getting the data into electronic format -- and "dropdown boxes" and macros just don't cut it. Notes constructed that way are mostly meaningless, no matter how many "points" they include for billing purposes.
Dragon is so close to useful. For me, after several years of practice, it is nearly 100% accurate, but many of the people using it now just don't seem to pay any attention to editing- and the results are often risible at best and misleading or just plain wrong at worst, with potential serious consequences.
Presumably they are using "medical" Dragon, because these notes are coming from the big hospitals, which wouldn't be using anything else -- so I have yet to be convinced that spending $1800 on the medical version gets one any closer to a "transcriptionist" than the plain vanilla Premium version. Probably the same is true of the "professional" version, unless the macros are really important -- but they really aren't because there really is no place for "boiler plate" in a medical record.

I second Tom's comments about Tom Hamilton's information posts above. I rely on Dragon daily and KnowBrainer is a great resource for Dragon and other voice dictation stuff (shameless plug intended!)
On the other hand, I am tiring of Nuance spamming me several times a day about Dragon 13. Get to work on the Medical Edition already! I'm ready to pay your extortionist prices but give the endless spams a rest!

Tom, Are there any offices using the cloud version of AC with Dragon? If so, have there been functionality issues?

Dale, No one has specifically mentioned this combination of the cloud version of AC and Dragon or asked for tech support on the combination in direct contact with us. Our clients use a wide spectrum of different EMR's. You might try asking this question on our Dragon Medical Practice Edition and EMR forum http://www.knowbrainer.com/forums/forum/categories.cfm?catid=10&entercat=y

Tom, Are there any offices using the cloud version of AC with Dragon? If so, have there been functionality issues? Dale, We have clients who use both our managed environment, and AC hosting, and the single greatest impediment to using Dragon successfully is network latency. Latency is a different measure than speed, and has to do with any mid-route congestion. An easy way to spot this is run a VOIP quality test from that end-point several times during the day and see what scores you get. There is a much more technically detailed way to evaluate the network(as there almost always is), but this will give you some quick results. Some of that may be fixable - was recently in a large practice ~ 50 users, and found a "retro" 10/100 switch. That is fixable, congestion (more often on DSL circuits) is not.

Glad to help; that is part of my small give back to folks in private practice. Drop me a line if you need more help assessing your network.

We use AC in the cloud and Dragon Medical without any issues. It is a little different, like some correcting of words, but overall works great.
