How to get your data for portability and reporting
More and more practices ? or third parties connected to those practices ? are asking for direct access to their Amazing Charts databases.? In the vast majority of cases, they need a SQL password to create unique reports for quality measures, payers, or government mandates.? In very rare instances, it?s because the provider wants to switch to a different EHR and needs take their data with them.
Amazing Charts has always supported open data portability and reporting. ?The process for requesting a read-only SQL password is simple.? The Amazing Charts license holder must make a request from our Client Services group, or give a third party written permission to make the request.? We simply ask that all parties sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). ??
Read-write access is more complicated because we need to protect people from themselves.? Unless you are a certified SQL expert, it is all too easy to make changes to your database that will cause catastrophic failure.? We vet these requests more carefully to ensure the practice has the right IT resources in place, and then we work closely, hand-in-hand with the practice?s IT resource to get the request completed.
Why Amazing Charts is different from other EHR companies ? we don?t hold data hostage
There is a buzz phrase?in the provider community: ?Holding EHR data hostage.? ?In these horror stories, a practice wants to stop using an EHR, and the vendor will not give them access to their own patient medical data. ?Adding insult to injury, many EHR companies will demand that the practice pay a ?data access fee? of thousands of dollars.? This is essentially holding your data hostage until you pay a ?ransom.? ?
A recent conversation with a medical biller, who works with hundreds of practices using dozens of EHR systems, was even scarier.? He said that providers using Practice Fusion and other cloud-based EHRs had no access to their data whatever when they decided to stop using it.? And there was absolutely nothing they could do about it.?
Amazing Charts has never and will never ?hold practice data hostage.? If a practice, for whatever reason, decides to switch to another EHR vendor, Amazing Charts works with the practice to help them securely take their patient records with them.? That is our pledge to you.??
