Several of the folks on the board are already planning on attending, so we decided to put this out there if anyone is cold enough that they already want to plan on getting a spring-time warm.

It is just starting to get cold, so it is time to start thinking about The Thaw in San Diego, our next Meetup Weekend!

Our facility is the beautiful Hilton Resort in San Diego's Mission Bay .

You can walk out onto the beach, rent sailboats from the resort's marina, or you are minutes from the San Diego Zoo, Old-Town, and numerous other attractions.

We will have meetings in the morning, independent study and group outings in the afternoon, and the hospitality suite will be open in the evenings for informal discussions. One evening will feature a hosted Fiesta with an authentic Mexican food spread.

We have had successful events in Tahoe, CA, and Laramie, WY, which attendees described as "informative", "invigorating", "inspiring", and just plain fun.

To get the best pricing and rooms, we are currently scheduled for the weekend of 3-5 of April, 2014. At this point we need you to check your schedule and determine if you can commit to attending that weekend ? if there is sufficient commitment, we will contract for the space and start the detailed planning.

"Early birds" receive a discount: the cost for the program will be $375 if you register by December 29th, or $495 after that date.

You are torturing me!!!!!!! Palm trees and beach scenes, and all I can see, ice and snow, but in 2 more days they start to get longer.

It's balmy here today, we will get past +10.

Trust me, by April, most of us will be ready for the Thaw.

Good news on that front btw, the brew-masters @ Altitude know some of the brew-masters in San Diego, so we may be able to visit a Craft Brewery for another behind the scenes tour if there is interest.

I'm sure we can find you another IPA for you to soliloquize.

How far from Anaheim to San Diego? Thinking I might try to go to the Pri-Med before to garner some CME credits and expense write-off.

2 hours if no traffic jams on either end. A train is available with taxis at each end.

Excellent idea!

Driving like a Californian, I have been know to make that trip in less than 1:15.

The train is slower, but much less stressful.

I will go so far as to indicate that the first portion does *not* include Western Meeting. I love the signature, and you are not in danger of hijacking.

Without traffic it takes about an hour and a half to get from San Diego to Anaheim. The train would be the least stressful. Let me know if you end up coming to Pri-med. I'll be there and am local as well.

I'm down for a behind the scenes tour of a brewery. Sign me up!

Leslie, the San Diego meeting will provide plenty of write-offs, and CME you can get for free online. Aren't you hearing this stuff about the alcohol at the non-medical portions of this event? Get your priorities straight!

You need the standard CA warning about the consumption of alcohol [even if you're a guy apparently], as there was a not insignificant amount of testing involved last time as well as hops pressing and sniffing.

Going to get the airline tickets for San Diego, so just wanted to make sure everything is still on.

Man, I priced them yesterday...went up over a hundred dollars in less than a month!

Not only is Meetup Weekend San Diego on, the contract signed, the rooms booked, the first $$$$ spent, but we are really excited about the range of topics and some of the new innovations that will be shown off.

We have added a track just for senior staff for Friday and Saturday; with Physicians, experts, and raconteurs like myself giving them a wide spectrum of insights and tools. I'm confident that your "Start your Patient Portal in a Hour" workshop will be a hit. We have reached out to Updox to get the good news out, and will be working with other folks as well.

Just for the record, in Boston it is 100% chance of snow and a HIGH of 36F, Chicago will have a HIGH of 32F, and San Diego will be Sunny with a light breeze and 73F.

So, Evidence Based planning clearly indicates that folks should plan on coming out to San Diego April 2-5 to thaw out, learn, relax, and gain insights from your fellow Physicians.

I found a round trip for $112.78 and with Indy's discount of 250 dollars, I figure to make a bit.

No, seriously looking at about 375 dollars, which beats hitchhiking.

Indy, is there a shuttle to and fro the airport?--sounds like it is only 6 miles from the resort.

Jim, there is a shuttle that runs long hours from the hotel that saves you having to rent a car (unless you choose to).

In the event that that you come in off-hours on your time-share jet, let me know and we'll saddle up The Mighty Burb to come get you. You've seen the stealth paint-job, so you won't have to worry about the paparazzi sighting you and Lisa.

Lisa was wondering if JamesNT will be around to help her from getting roughed up if the conversation goes political.

36 degrees is 20-30 higher than it's been for much of the last month. Virtual heatwave. Oh well, I guess I'll have to sacrifice to come to San Diego.

I should have looked up the windchill, but that seemed like just rubbing it in.

Glad to have you joining us, we are well on our way to putting the band back together. We will have to determine who is Jake and who is Elwood - I believer you are the tallest of us.

The real shame is that you are probably going to miss out on some sailing.

The trip to the beach to see the sights will be independent study.

Jim, you know we love Lisa and we promise to go easy on her. That is in part because of the lack of red state back-up from James. It's also because I was starting to worry that you would show up in SD saying "Nope, Lisa is at home; but let me introduce you to my Chromebooks".

Anyone who likes to "short" stocks should be looking for Microsoft to slide in early April since James will apparently be on a mission and unavailable to talk them up.
