I've been using Updox for over a year, can't imagine doing without it.

Their patient portal, on the other hand, is something I'm not sure about, not sure it has all the features one would want, and seems to lack a professional "finish" to it.

I haven't encouraged patients to use it yet, but now that HIPAA is getting stricter, I'm feeling more pressure to get a portal up and running.

According to the last AC update:

..."We will provide the online tools necessary for patients to view, download and transmit their personal health information electronically ( a ?patient portal?) as part of the AC product."... (supposedly around December?)

I don't want to start making widespread use of the Updox portal if AC is coming out with something more appropriate. Or, for that matter, if there's a better portal solution out there.

Any thoughts?

Michael

Since Updox has been one of their most successful integrations, it wouldn't surprise me if they continue, or even increase their integration with Updox.

It would be the logical thing for them to do as there is increased pressure from users for AC to mind their own knitting and improve the core application.

Michael,

Whether you choose Updox or another portal, my advice would be keep it simple and just do the messaging and forget all the forms and templates, but start using the portal messaging back and forth instead of phone calls and voice mail. The messaging back and forth comprises about 90% of the electronic traffic in Updox for me (not including the efaxing), and the most helpful practically.

The other time and money saver, if you mail out lots of summaries, pap and mammo letters, would be to do this work thru the portal, no matter which portal you decide, the savings on postage will likely pay for the portal cost

I for one hope that they increase it. I also hope that Updox works to expand & improve its offerings. Even if AC develops and publishes its own portal, I'd like to see them further their partnership with Updox, and even expand to a few other portal partners (e.g., RelayHealth). Different companies implement similar services with different feature sets, and it would be nice to have a choice which partner to work with. Or sometimes just to choose who the one which your "physician partners organizations" work with.
