So, I've messed around trying to get the insurance to autofill more than the first address line, and for some reason, I've only succeeded once. That leaves me with another problem - I've got a ton of duplicate insurance names. So, in summary, have two questions:
Is there any good explanation as to how the autofill objects are created, and how to make it so they'll be formed with city, state, zip, etc. ?
and,
How can one get rid of Junk autofill items? I have some that are not being used by any charts, so hope of an auto cleanup seems slim.
Very frustrating having 5 variants of "CareFirst XIC"...
Thanks guys!
Eric

Use the search feature and make sure that no patient has insurance "CareFirst XIC". Once I changed all of my patients insurance plans from "Etna" to Aetna I no longer had an autofill choice of Etna. Same thing for people who live in "New Yiork"

Well, it does disappear from the Search, but for some reason it still stays in the insurance autofill section of the demographics page. Maybe I just need to give it time/a reset or two to catch up.
Any clue as to why some insurance autofill items save the city/state/zip with them, and why others just come with the Address 1 line? The latter scenario is much more common, unfortunately.
Thanks for all your help everybody, Eric

There may be some data stuck in the Windows registry of your computer.
If I'm right, those residual wrong items will drop off the list as you add new demographics on your computer. However, it may remain for a while on computers that you use less often.
There is probably a way to check the Windows registry directly and clear it manually; I could figure it out maybe...
As far as the other autofill items, I will just say that there are some items that behave like that in the Medication autofill section, and they seem to be items where I typed something in instead of choosing it from a dropdown list or combo box. Could that be the issue here as well?

Hm, you seem to be on to something. I tried on a different computer, and at first, there were no autofill items, but then I loaded up a few charts, and only the autofill items with patients currently using them appear in the search AND in the demographics windows. I'm not sure quite what you mean by your example... In this case, when I start entering Cigna, the name autocompletes, and I get PO Box 5200 for Address, Scranton for City, PA for state, and the Zip code. For my Carefirst entries, I only get the street address, and I have to manually fill in the city, state, and zip for every patient. Every time I try to make a new carefirst entry, the same thing happens - only the street address saves. I should try another name, maybe another short one... Now that I know that the items get cleaned up, I can experiment more freely Thanks Brian, Eric

Another bit of strangeness... in the search box, in the box where you can select the insurance to search for, if you scroll to the right, you can see the address, etc. entries for each insurance autofill entry in the db. The ones for my problematic entries (Carefirst blah blah blah) are all full of the correct data. It just doesn't end up filling in on the chart itself.
Incidentally, the other insurance names that work are all short ("Aetna", "Cigna"), whereas my problematic ones are all "Carefirst something something prefix". I'm going to check to see if it is related to label length for whatever reason...

Hm, I switched them to short names, but that didn't fix it. Then I removed parens from the name (another commonality between the problem cases), and everything started working. Perhaps AC is allergic to parentheses?
Ah well, either way, it works now. I'm pretty confident that it's a bug and not incorrect usage that was causing this, though. Something to look into...
Thanks everyone, Eric
