One day I may look at Borgchat. Just hard because I have been using IMmsg for so long without a single network glitch.
Not to be picky, but Ketan you are referring to INTRAoffice messenger and not interoffice messenger. Two completely different animals. Interoffice is between two or more offices, and I would include the regular messengers such as Yahoo or AOL. Those, of course, are not HIPAA compliant.

My staff rooms the pt in the order they are to be seen. This then lists them in my provider box in order. To stay on time, I asked them to put the time of their appt in the CC box. I also have the nurse's notes time stamped so I can see how long the patient has been waiting.

Yes that is totally what i meant...sorry my 4 month old at home uses up all my brain power...i think this is all secondary now! lol

 i will try the messenger.

If the messages portion of AC updated dynamically i would be all for doing that but it doesn't.

Honestly, i am hoping AC puts in an easy flagging system..it would be pretty easy to do and allow us to customize what tags we want (here, checked in and in WR, in a room, at xray, in the lab)...

Actually, I think you will find that one of the Intraoffice messengers will work better for what you want than the AC, even if it updated automatically, WHICH it NEEDS to do for other reasons.
Just joking on the Inter vs Intra.

There's also Microsoft Lync Server for those larger practices that need more control. Smaller practices will be fine with IP MSG or Borg Chat. | | |

When my nurse forwards the chart to me after documenting the cc, vitals, meds, etc. I have her put the room number next to the patients name in the message subject. Then I just see them in the order that they are sent to me ( the time sent is also there).

Ketan, IP MSG does pop up in front of other windows and does pop up anywhere you set it to. Not to condescending, but it is rather easy to install. http://ipmsg.org/index.html.en I still prefer v2.06. The entire install takes less than five seconds, although there are a few settings, which I have written down on a Word document. I would, of course be happy to remote in and install it.

They should only IM you when it is important, then you WANT them to have a message pop up with the reply. If you close the main screen it stays in the lower R corner. You can double click it to make the screen come up.

I agree it is just for my front desk girl to tell me what room to go to next or where a patient is. That is all we are using it for. I see the thing at the bottom corner that kind of changes color. Wishing they had it where the screen would pop up on top of all others...a lot of times i am doing a chart or other stuff and don't see the screen at the bottom

Ketan,
I am confused. Both IMs are good. I don't know about the window thing but IP MSG will pop up wherever you tell it to.

I have offered to remote in and set it up. I can't help you more than that.

pierre,
I have to stay with IP MSG just because it has never lost connection in over eight years. Prior to that, I tried about ten which worked for one week to three weeks, then lost connectivity (forever). But, that was P2P. Possibly on a domain.

Having said that, Spark looks pretty cool and is OPEN SOURCE, which is usually a plus. Thanks for the recommendation!

My screens do pop up, I'll have to check the settings. But that's default for our system.

Ketan,
If it doesn't pop up, then it really isn't worth it. For me, anyway, it pops up and makes a sound. You can send it open or in stealth mode when you 1) wouldn't want someone to see it that shouldn't and 2) you know when it is opened, which can be important.

Obviously you can use it for anything you want; we use it for EVERYTHING. The most important being that Dr. So and so is on the phone. Thats a good time to have it in lock mode or whatever it is called. If my staff doesn't see that I have opened it within 20 seconds, they run down to get me. Other than that, I don't want lock/stealth mode to be used as it wastes Purell, having to use the mouse to open the window.

I have at times sent a message to our referral person to refer to ortho, etc., and by the time the patient leaves, the receptionist has an appt card for the referral.

My favorite though is, "Do you want a Coffee Coolatta? I always tell them, why do you even have to ask that. That's my favorite part of the day.

Ketan,We use the schedule to track the pts, no need for IM. Reception types in "kept" in parenthesis beside patients name on schedule to alert the nurse that patient has arrived. That way I know the patient is there as well. After nurse rooms the patient she changes the "kept" to "ready 1" or "ready 2" and so forth indicating the patient is ready for me and which room. Has worked very well for my solo practice. I would prefer color coding on the schedule but that's not an option.
