My ultrasound machine saves images to a CD as TIFFs. Then we insert the CD in a desktop, open the images and import them to each patient's AC chart.
Are TIFFs the right choice? The images are beautiful but do take up a lot of room and now our nightly on-line backups are taking 8 hours to run.
Is there a better way to do this?

You can print to PDF which could make a smaller file, or open with a paint type program that will allow you to save as a lower format

Best way to be to not include Imports when backing up. Use a second service for a incremental file backup e.g. Carbonite, Mozy, CrashPlan, etc. Then at the end of the day, you have maybe 50-200 MB database and only the imports you added that day.
