Two Government agencies with different point of view:

Per FDA: Shingles vaccine approved for people more than 50.
http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-...fda-shingles-vaccine-ok-at-age-50-and-up

Per CDC: Shingles vaccine not needed for people less than 60.

Per Professors CDC wins. Though approved it should not be given to people less than 60.

Put them in a boxing ring and let them fight each other. You may have a show.

i think part of the reason for the CDC recommendation is due to the limited supply. If we gave it to everyone over 50, those most vulnerable may not get it.

This is not necessarily a contradiction. While it is APPROVED for use (shown to be effective and no significant side effects,) that does not necessarily mean it is NEEDED.

Gardasil vaccine for HPV is APPROVED to the age of 9, hopefully not that many of my patients NEED it at that age (sexually transmitted.)

Re: everybody knows that with HPV vaccine there is no such contradiction. It is approved and can be given at age 9 per CDC fact sheet.

Back to Shingles vaccine: If you answer the question in an exam the way I wrote above, you will get a mark.

Per Professors who write questions, it is written in stone, that people less than 60 do not need that shingles vaccine. Just not. You could give it, you will not go off label. But it is not needed. Today. It could change in future.

Trust me.

Because I just took THAT 10 yr test.
