While contemplating bathroom tissue in an earlier thread the cliche "don't forget to do the paperwork" ran through my demented brain. But instead of picturing Cottonel or Charmin, my old, tired, frustrated cerebrum conjured up this image.
I am standing at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter is reading my file and says, "I see Dr. Strouse that you have spent your life struggling to help the sick, the old, the down-trodden. I see you have never been convicted of any crimes. You have tried hard to fight evil whenever you could. You have been generous in your charitable gifts. All of these are very admirable but I see a note here from CMS and so you will have to go join that group sitting over there. He points to a massive congregation of people sitting and standing, all with piles of papers upon which they are feverishly scribbling. Sister Theresa, Indira Ghandi, Nelson Mandella, Martin Luther King, first responders at 911, teachers, missionaries, soup kitchen workers, Clark Kent....all covered up in reams and reams of paper. "Who are all of those people and what are they doing?" I ask. "They are all people who dedicated their lives to helping others but, unfortunately, they did not take the time TO DO THE PAPERWORK. Now, please join them and get started".
As I drag my tired soul over to join the group, I hear St. Pete calling, "NEXT! Lawyer? Enter please. Senator? Enter please. Repentant murderer? Enter please." I could not help but think "It looks like it is going to be a lonnnng eternity".

On the other hand, if, like me, you envision not dealing much with St. Peter...
The flashpoint of paper is 451 degrees Farenheit.
