Just don't create any new II in the interim...

Although it would be interesting if you moved that subfolder over to the original II folder.

.... I may be totally off base about this, but I guess the idea is that the enc file could be corrupted. If so, you might not discover this until a day (or 3,5, or 10) later. In that case, you would want to go back to the last file that was still healthy. I know...this is all pretty unlikely, but as we all know, unlikely scenarios is what complex backup regimens are for. It is unlikely, but I have run into it. I did blink a few times when the restored failed ~85% in. I grabbed another .enc, and it worked, but that failed restore message is not one that anyone wants to see.

I had thought about Ken's scenario in the past. While it is pretty unlikely (especially since it involves someone walking out with some bulky and heavy hardware under their arm) I wondered if I could restore the way he proposes. Running AC without adding any new II seems doable. The concern is about adding new II, then downloading the original II and trying to add them together.
This prompted me to do a little experiment: I dropped a pdf into the imported items folder of a patient, then ran the II "found items" utility. It didn't find the file. Hardly a definitive test, but it makes me uncomfortable with the idea that I could handle this in the simple way that Bert suggests.
I hope that makes SOME sense.

I am guarding against Ken's scenario because I have local in office backups, local out of office backups, and then the online backups. I have both enc files and II in all 3 locations. Unless my home and office are burglarized simultaneously, I have local data to access.
You can run AC without any II. I have a copy of AC at home on test computer where I would restore the enc file from the office, but not add the II. You can do everything except open II, which are obviously not present. It you try to open an II, you will get an error message, but AC will ignore it and continue. I think Jon's suggestion not to add any new II until the previous file is restored is the safe way to go.

Thanks for all of your answers to my unlikely scenario. With Imported items getting bigger and bigger, I think eventually Amazing Charts may want to move to a 2 phase restore process. First database would be restored. This would allow the office to get back and running and take some heat off the guardian angels. Then maybe AC should limit ability for new imported items till the imported items are restored. Local restores could follow this same process, except the imported items would like be restored in 30 minutes rather than 3 days. I don't have a great analogy, but I'm thinking of how QUickbooks limits what you can do when you have an accountants copy out. Until the accountant sends the file back you can't mess with the prior year or change account names, etc.

There's an II "found items" utility?

@Roger Yes there is under Admin | Tools
I think Ken was just making up the scenario to see how it should be best be handled. I was able to merge the two folders and it worked fine.
Like Donna says, it likely wouldn't be an issue, because onsite backups are still the most efficient if not best backups.
I don't see where the system is set up right now is a big deal as far as restoring.
Also, not that I can think of a better way, but I have always felt the way imported items are done is less than ideal.
