I have a SMASUNG SCX 4826fn that receives faxes via email in PDF format. It scans in PDF & has all the functions of a multifunction machine. My only cost is for a FAX line.
The print quality is good. It is a networked machine that is connected to all my worksatations & work well. Not had any problems for 3 years now. Just had to change cartridges!!

UpDox is looking better and better at least for labs -- it is so easy to write a note to a patient, file the report in the chart, print it out if necessary.

What I worry about is that Meaningful Use might require "structured" lab data -- and UpDox just files images of the lab reports.

Anyone know about this?

Updox has the capability to handle structured data, it is a matter of further integration; we are working with Updox and some imaging labs to extend the capabilities and move to digital messaging and away from faxes.

Better for practices, and saves the imaging shop $$$.

Indy, I assume you mean a theoretical capability; it is not able to do that in any functional way now. Correct?

It is mainly a function of getting the sender & receiver to agree on the data map; Updox ends up being a secure pipe.

Updox is already handling CCRs and CCDs from other vendors, so that is live capability.

We are working with them to further extend the model, but that capability hasn't been released yet.

Please keep at it. Is there any chance that Quest, LabCorp, American Radiology, etc could all feed one end of the pipe, and AC on my computer is at the other end? Now that would have some nice implications.

From updox workspace:

can you attach a pdf or word etc document from C: drive - to email to patient?

(we tried updox and can send an incoming updox fax- to patient, but we are not able to attach an already imported item in patients chart to send to patient)

Thanks.

Joseph,

You can print an already imported item to Updox (just select Updox as your printer when you go to print the item). Then select everything you want to send from the Updox workspace and email it to a patient.

Marty,

That works. Thank you.

(On a different vein, I spoke with updox, they said they are working on billpay).

Marty - thanks for being the Shell Answer man. I know it is tough taking time away during PATH. (Peak Afternoon Tanning Hours) :P

Indy,

I don't get too much PATH time but today will be a good day for that. I'm off early and need to head towards the beach anyways.
Hope I have some sunscreen at home, it's going to be a scorcher

Yes but were you two on a tractor baling 200 round bales in the middle of a sweltering hay field in the Ohio River Valley humidity trying to feed the hungry jackasses (and mules) of the world?

Nope - no where near a tractor. The tiller is broke, so was trying to save tomatoes by hand in the heat.

For context, they were skiing in Tahoe on the Fourth, so I am looking forward to some time in the pines this fall. Mule skinners are welcome. smile

If I had been in the area I would have helped Leslie, I spent my summers growing up amongst rows; put the red in redneck for me since I've never tanned.

How that relates to faxing is I can appreciate anything that makes work easier. Does your tractor have AC & stereo?

Hey Leslie,

I was no where near a tractor this weekend. I did see quite a few jackasses on the freeway on my way to the beach though.

I'm also curious if your tractor has AC & a stereo. Any iPod hookups for that thing?

Marty, what was I thinking? I can get WIFI from my phone, but what about a USB charging dock?

No, no AC in my tractor! I had a golf umbrella duct-taped to the ROPs bar but hit a low lying limb and the stupid thing fell on my head. I looked pretty silly I am sure riding around with a green and white umbrella on my head. Now, if I had had a fax machine at the time, it would have been a Brother and I would have faxed a picture to ya'll.
