Medicare is saying that if u can't prove eprescribe for some patients by 6/30/11 that we get dinged 2% starting 1/12. I'm on V5.029 which doesn't meet e prescribe requirements. Needs to be bidirenctional refills etc. Beta V 5.2 has the required things in place. Has anybody installed 5.2 beta or what is the status of the eprescribe rules?

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the rule is: "a ?successful electronic prescriber? must report the eRx measure for at least 25 unique electronic prescribing events in which the measure is reportable. The measure can be reported through Medicare Part B claims, a qualified registry, or a qualified electronic health record (EHR) system."
So, eRx'ing, even outside of an EHR (for instance, using a stand-alone like the free Allscripts program), would count... you'd just have to choose the first (or second but not the third) method of reporting. And it sounds by others' posts and research that "25 events" is really "10 before June 30, 25 by Dec 31".

it's not just reporting -which has a special V code- but it has to be a QUALIFIED e prescribe program which V 5.029 is NOT because of requirements stated in original post. U can get around it if u can prove certain conditions- No pharmacies in ure area are online, no or only dailup internet access and a couple of other ones. My info is that u need 11 scripts sent via qualified e prescribe by 6/30 or u get dinged. According to recent AAFP website CMS has proposed an exception if u are already signed up or will sign up for "meaningful use" which V5 isn't qualified for but V6 will be. However meaningful use entails a snakepit of reporting parameters (at least 15 that I know of at last publication of what meaningful use is) that have to be done and sent to Medicare at some point in time. Of course if u take the carrot u get get money from the Feds. I know of docs that are signing up for trial use of qualified e prescribe programs run the 11 scripts and then cancel the program. Maybe that's the way to go. I have the link to what is "qualified" e presribe if u want it I got it off the AAFP website

Does anyone know why none of these options apply for those who don't see Medicare, like those who see 65% Medicaid?
