I have wired and wireless computers in the office. I recently tested the speed of to/from the database in AC utilities and the wireless computers are running from 3 seconds to 8 seconds. Even with close proximity to the Linksys wireless G router.

With the newer routers does anyone have speeds that approximate the wired computers. My wired computers are <1 sec.

I get about 800 msec on the gigabit wired network and about 2 seconds on the wireless. I changed from the Linksys 802.11n wireless access point to a 5 GHz Cisco WAP due to frequency congestion, and it is quite a bit faster.

I am curious what these times really measure. One or two seconds for a computer is an eternity. Does this send a query back and forth to the database a few million times so it can report comprehensible times?

Thanks David. 2 seconds would be a huge improvement for us.

Actually, we are considering just wiring everything and using one of the extra laptops as a dedicated Midmark EKG/spirometry computer. It is on a rolling cart and is always attached to both the EKG and the spirometry units. That way the rooms would be wired and we would have just one roaming computer for requiring the wireless connection.

Im not sure about what it actually checks. However, it does say to check it several times to get better accuracy so my guess is it only checks once.

I also get about 800 ms for my wired workstations, and between 2.5-3.5 seconds for the wireless tablets, using a 802.11n wireless access point.
