I know this is probably tantamount to heresy but I think it's important to talk about other EMR's so that AC can get better. With that idea in mind, I have just come upon a neat EMR similar to AC but, I think, much easier to use called UniCharts. I would love to see AC implement some of the better things that this EMR has. First off, you can type freely, use templates AND, most importantly, POINT AND CLICK templates/words! That's what I really like about it since I am a very slow typist. I also really like the remote control of this EMR. All you do is set up a static local IP address on your LAN and when you are offsite, just type that IP address into IE's browser and voila! You are at the login screen! It is so much faster to log in and out! And even though this program is pretty cool and as inexpensive as AC (actually a little less expensive), it has NO interfaces. It doesn't even interface with LabCorp or any E-prescription service! However, they supposedly will have all of these interfaces by the end of June 2011. I doubt it. But then again, I think this EMR is only a year or so old. Anyway, maybe AC can eventually have these couple of great ideas. Then it will have everything! smile

There are several features that other programs have that I wish were present in AC. I also hope the AC developers do not succumb to the "Not Invented Here" syndrome, but will seek enlightenment wherever it is found.

I hope so too. I would bet a lot more AC users feel the same way as we do. smile

All the stuff you mention in UNICHARTSn is there in AC
If one takes time to familiarize onself with AC, one will discover much more than meets the eye with AC.
Loggging in remotely, setting static & IP addresses can be done with any program and is really not a function of an EMR.
AC is better than most EMR out there as far as functionality and ease of use.
Moreover the retreival of your database is difficult if not next to impossible with most EMR as compared to AC if you decide to change EMR's
AC may need to be tweaked in some areas but it is a pretty robust EMR that I have been very happy with and recommended to my colleagues.
I have found AC to be very user friendly as compared to some of the EMR I have tried and was dissapointed.

I agree with Grenville.

With AC you have free typing
Right click to do templates whether blocks or short phrases
What I saw on Unicharts website seems to require more click and pick.
You can use RDP with static IP or logmein to remote access.
I am not sure why it would be that much faster to log in and out. I stay logged in and just lock the windows user screen (windows button + L)
Things that are promised in the software world, AC included, are often much slower than promised.

I agree with the point and click - I find a progress note with 30 symptoms, 10 with Plus and 20 with Minus to be poorly readable, granted I type fast, but I think even if you get the 'BULLET POINTS' with charts that have (+)anxiety, (-)depression it still is poor charting.

AMEN Steven.
We had Misys at a previous job and it was rigid, and painful to use. I love the freedom we have with AC to develop it the way we want to use.
