I have a satellite office that is a separate group of patients. There is absolutely no cell or internet available. Kind of afraid of sync issues.

Can I keep a laptop with a separate AC practice there so I can print rx etc and never sync with my main office?

I think that is a question for Jon as it would technically be a whole different account. I would email him.

I would clear this with Jon, but...

If it has the same name, Tax ID and Docs, I would think it should be OK.

Yes, you should talk to Jon (I like to refer to him as "the other Jon"). I would not try to cheat AC out of any money; seriously, the program is an incredible bargain, and we should support that. If there is a charge then you should pay it.

On the other hand, consider this: if you download a "free trial" of a program and that computer/program is NEVER connected to the internet; and you never get upgrades or support... what should the charge be for that? The company has no way to know you have it, and besides, it sounds like you are already paying for one version. Of course, if you want support, then you should pay!

Did that sound totally unethical? I hope not.

If you never hook AC to the internet it will quit working (somewhere around 120 days) - even the registered version - if you have no internet you can call AC and a registered user can get a code to fix it, but it will go into administrative mode.

So the self-destruct feature does exist... probably a good thing.

I have two offices. We back up to a thumb drive and take the practice to the second office and then back that up and return it to our main office for the next day. As the data increases this will become cumbersome. We are in the learning phase of connecting the two offices somewhere up there in the clouds. I guess the term is VPN. We have internet in both offices and eprescribe from both offices. You don't need to synch, just do a back up. Right now it takes about 20 minutes for us to back up the entire program. This is also handy because I have all records available to me at all times. So if I get a call on a patient from one office and I'm in the other office, I can always look at their record. Synching didn't work for us but we haven't tried it in a very long time.
