It looks like Paperport 12.1 is a disaster with Windows 7. It keeps freezing the network and is virtually unusable. Paperport support tells me it is not meant to be networked and they were entirely unhelpful after an hour on a non-toll free number.
I would like to find a replacement that will allow me to convert Tif files to PDFs and then mark them up in preparation for importing into AC. I already spent $100 on Paperport 12 and would rather not incur another costly mistake. I found a little utility to convert the PDFs for free (can't remember the name right now) so I think I can make that work for the conversion. I looked at XnView and it looks like a good organizer but I couldn't see how to mark up the PDFs. Cute PDF also doesn't seem to have any marking tools. I really don't want to spend the money on a full version of an Adobe product.
I personally feel that this should be a part of AC since it is a vital part of a paperless office.
Anyone have any other ideas?

I use pdfill.com for conversion and making forms, etc Free to try and most remains free, otherwise 30.00 to buy 1 copy.

That's a good one. There are millions of them. Just Google "PDF editors WIN7"
Let me guess. You are using Brother?

The free CutePDF writer may not have the marking tools but the CutePDF pro does ($50). But, the adobe acrobat standard version really is that much better ($299). If you have a student in household, there is a significant adobe educational discount (believe 50%).
Also, did you try an earlier version of paperport? I have read many disparaging reports of paperport versions 11 and 12.

I am indeed using a Brother which brings the faxes in as Tif files. I have now reverted to PP 9 which works ok but the quality of the file is lacking despite playing with every possible setting.
I'll check out the cute PDF pro and the PDF Fill.
Thanks for the ideas.

Our office is still on PP 9 and we have no issue with quality of file. It would be good to understand any discrepancy in settings we might have that could cause this.

I too am still on Paperport 9 which works just fine. I had to find some drivers from the website when I replaced my desktop which is now running Windows 7 (blech) but otherwise have found no reason to upgrade to PP12

We are using PDF Converter Professional V. 6. Its by Nuance, the same people who do Dragon Naturally Speaking and Paperport. Lets you do almost everything that Adobe Standard does: edit, markup, combine, extract pages, etc. (Normally about $90 online. Right now its about $50 from Overstock.com.) Working fine on a Win7 32 bit. Haven't yet installed on our new Win7 64bit machine. Will let you know how that goes.
