I have created an access program that allows you to document which patient is in which room, if the room is clean and ready for a new patient or ready to be cleaned, and a drop down box listing the most common problems I see in my practice (this box can be modified to your practice). This program is opened source and I will e-mail it to anyone who writes me Sam M. Horowitz,DPM, FACFAS C.Ped samsfuture@aol.com

Greetings. It is great that you have created a program. Congrats.
I have a simple question. When the nurse fowards the chart- can't she just put the room number in the forwarded/emailed chart under subject??
Regards.

Joseph; I'm not quite sure what you mean. I have six treatment areas. THe medical assistants bring the patient to the room and open the patients chart in the room. The assistant indicates in the program which patient they just brought in. I am going room to room evaluating and giving instructions. I have a workstation at the nurses station where I access the program that tells me which patient is in which room with what problem. I can open their chart as well from that station to review before going into the room if I want. We all have different methods of seeing our patients. This one seems to work for me. I have also put a laser black and white printer (on sale for $70 ea!) in each room so I can print out instructions and orders and perscriptions and sign them there in the room. It keeps on getting better and better Sam

Sam,
Drop me a copy when you get a minute.. meyerv@meyerandmalin.com.
We're running as much Open Source as we can. Our servers are all Linux boxes, and I have Amazing Charts running about 95% under Fedora Core 6 (and will be 100% with an installable Amazing Charts "rpm" file shortly)

In our office we have 4 colors of flags and a Magnetic #1. The #1 is for me since I'm the boss and the 4 colors are for the other 4 NPs. The nursing staff sends us a chart and then beeps us on the intercom that we have a patient ready. We go to the room with our flag or magnet out. Quick, easy and cheap. I can also see putting that information in the subject line of AC email.
We have ONE prescription printer in the hallway by the exam rooms. We keep special safety paper in that printer. We also ALL use tablet pcs, so we print to Windows Journal or Microsoft Document Imaging, sign on our computers and print to the hallway printer.

Glenda, you sign your Rxs on your laptop before printing them? And the pharmacies don't have any problem with it since it appears to be (and is) printed from the pc?
