I am in the initial stages of learning to to do my own billing. The folks who had done my billing are wonderful and helped us so much. I am just grateful now that no percentage is given away and it seems like it will actually be less work on our part than getting things ready to send off. I am entering my codes as I go in office ally. We will send our first batch this weekend so wish us luck.
Thanks to all the folks who gave feedback and encouraged me as we made this transition

I was wondering if you are doing your own billing with staff or by yourself?

I am asking because I currently have an inhouse biller and wonder if I can save money by doing office ally myself.

Hello Tlelio,
How are your coding and billing skills? If you are comfortable at establishing the appropriate levels for e&m and using appropriate icds for procedures, understand modifiers, etc, you could do it. How well do you type? If you don't type well, it might be appropirate. Are you in private practice?, If you are, it is theoretically possible.
I am entering the icds and cpts in real time as I see patients. At the end of the day I applying the copays and submit claims. I am very pleased with the support and training that the company has provided.
Right now I have two laptops set up in my office so that I can finish up my note, I enter the codes into OA on the other computer. You could go back and forth, but it involves a three way toggle which was a little clumsy for me.
I am very content and glad that I am no longer paying a percentage and did not have to add a salary.
Good luck.

Office Ally runs best in Internet Explorer. I just upgraded to v8 that has tabs so I don't have to have 2 computers. I open another tab in firefox because the User boards work better for me in this browser.

Thanks Vicki for your help. I think I want to stay a bit of a distance from billing even though I could probably do it myself. I do like the idea of the two computers or the one and entering the information right in.

Wow V! I'm truly impressed. I pay an inhouse biller 35 hours/week not only to submit the claims but to make sure patients are paying their bills, keep track of who owes what, make our deposits, and resubmit any denials. It's above my skill level to do all that and do my job. She also helps me by running the errands that I don't have time for during the day, and takes my daughter to the orthodontist every month (they only seem to make apts during hours that I work---how dare they ) I've heard of some doctors doing everything themselves, and I'm happy to see you are finding the ability to do so. In our region, I know of one P.T. who does his own billing and everything. I'm not aware of any physicians. Congrats on taking the leap, and I really sincerely wish you well. Merry Christmas
