I replaced an aging xp laptop with a vista home premium (sp2) one, and I've attempted to install 4.0.73 numerous times and it crashes right after I input the user credentials. The machine is fully up to date, I'm able to drill down and find the database file. I've intalled and reinstalled AC so many times on many different machines here and I've never come across this issue. This is the only one having issues. Here's what the error code says:
Error 3625: Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.
Any help would be appreciated if someone has come across this error before.

Royce,
What exact point are you referring to when you say user credentials? In the place where you enter a user? Or at the login screen.
A quick Google search on that error message, consistently says it is a VB error having something to do with the XML file in SQL. I believe AC is written in VB.
Depending on where you are when it crashes, you could look at or replace your .xml file. Also, given the VB possibility, maybe you should uninstall everything, and redownload the 4.072 and 4.073 and reinstall. If 73 doesn't work, go back to 72.
Let me know how it turns out.

AC loads all the prerequisite modules, and as soon as you log in the 'there was a glitch in the matrix' error splash screen comes up. If I simply close that window it loads AC, but it will crash within 5 minutes or less of use.
version: 4.0.73 active form: frmLogOn Source: InterfacePartner: InitFromFields Line: 340 Error: (3625)
I thought that the error codes were proprietary with AC, wasn't aware I could simply google them. I will try and download .72 and see how that works. It's odd because I've had success on several versions of vista and 7.

Can you try running the installer in compatibility mode for WinXP and as Administrator?

I'm re-running the .73 installer as admin, which I'm not sure if I did before. I've also disabled UAC and have changed the settings of the installer to XP SP2 compatibility.
update: no dice, still the same error message.

When installing Amazing Charts On a home edition of Windows, you will sometime get this error. This is sometimes caused by the XML file not installing when you install Amazing Charts. The steps to correct this are to go to the Amazing Charts folder on that computer and right click on an empty area. Go to new, then text document. Name the document amazingcharts.XML and remove the .txt that appears when creating this file. That should solve your problem. If for some reason it does not or you would like me to assist you in this, feel free to email me at Joe@amazingcharts.com and I would be glad to help you.

Thanks for the help guys, but the issue still persists. I inserted the amazingcharts.xml into the AC directory in both .73 and .72 with the same result. Joe I'm going to give it a try with a fresh install of Win7 on the laptop, I'll give you a call if I run into the same problem.

I would try making sure that all of the SQL services are running with Local System priveledges and that they are running successfully (show status as Started). There was a SQL update earlier this month that messed up SQL Express at the accounting firm I do IT stuff for.

As for my above post I mean on the Vista (or Win7 as you said in your last post) machine, not the "main computer/server".

SQL Server shouldn't even be on the clients.
