Just a wish for us "dumb specialists" (that's for you Bert).

It would be great to have the referring doc listed in the corner of the note page somewhere. I often sign the chart and the the note writer comes up and I realize I forgot which doc was their PCP.

Is it crucial? No. Would it be nice? Yes. I can always close the note writer, check the demographics, and re-open the note writer.

Just a wish.

Is that a wish for AC or for us? In other words, if I were sending a consult to someone with AC, would I be able to do something to help.

And, you aren't dumb, you just don't answer the phone.

Give me a dumb specialist who answers the phone over a smart specialist who doesn't. <G>

It was a wish for AC. If my front office staff puts the referring provider in the demographic information area, I just wish it would pop up on the note somewhere.

Answer the phone? Man, that is my pet peeve. I hate when docs don't treat other docs as the #1 priority. That's a rule in my office: if a doc calls my office, come get me wherever I am. Now granted, if I'm in the O.R. and at a critical part of an operation, I have the nurse take a message and call back right after the operation.

I'm pretty sure we're all trying to take care of mutual patients. Plus, the food on my table depends on my referring docs sending me patients.

That will change once we're all on salary from the government. Then you won't be able to get in touch with me. It won't matter anyway because I won't be able to operate on your patient for 6months to 1 year anyway!

I hope I'm a smart specialist who answers the phone!
