Has anyone else noticed this. When you go to attach a file to the imported items section now, there is a "non-medical" folder. Items placed in this folder do not generate a sign-off message to the Dr. This is a great improvement.
Unfortuneately, this folder does not appear when you SCAN an item in using the TWAIN interface and prepare to attach it. So we are still bombarding Dr. C with these messages.

Ok, after talking w/ Tech Support, I found out a few things about the non-medical folder.
1) You must create it for each patient by attaching a file to the chart. You cannot create it by scanning in a document through the TWAIN interface. ONLY by importing a file and selecting "non-medical item." I think it is design flaw to only have this option when you attach files. One of the first things we do after we make a new chart is scan their registration paperwork into it. Using the TWAIN interface.
2)When a document is scanned in using the TWAIN interface, you are not allowed to choose the non-medical folder when you attach the item to the chart. EVEN IF IT HAS BEEN CREATED. You must attach it someplace else, then go back in "drop & drag" it to the non-medical folder, assuming you have already created the non-medical foler by attaching a file. Otherwise, you can't move it there until you create the folder by attaching a file.
I (and our doctor and other staff) find this silly and annoying for two reasons (at least). Firstly, you still generate a message to the Dr. that they need to sign off on the insurance card that you scanned in. Second, this generates alot of key strokes and extra work for the staff dragging and dropping stuff around that could have been put in the correct place in the beginning.
I'm suggesting that they make a change so that when you scan an item using the TWAIN interface, you have the option to place the item into the non-medical folder. If a non-medical folder has not yet been created for that patient, it should do so just as it does when you go to attach a file.
