I have DNS medical version 9.5. I have trained one computer. I would like to use my user files for other computers in my peer to peer network. Help on DNS is not working. Tech. support could not help. I am wondering if anyone has set up DNS medical over windows XP network? Thanks.

Just don't upgrade to version 10, the "crippled" version... Check out this FAQ- it'll tell you all you need to know: http://www.cam.ac.uk/cs/docs/faq/y4.html

Although we concur that you'll find a lot more NaturallySpeaking speech related answers on the KnowBrainer Speech Recognition Forums, the specific answers that you are looking for are in the Quick Tips. You have several options which are arranged in order of preference: 1. You can use the same user profile across multiple computers by initiating Roaming. If you would like a step-by-step on Roaming your user files, look up “roaming” in the previously mentioned Quick Tips. 2. You can move your user files to a thumb drive or network drive and use the same files on each computer. We refer to this as Poor Man's Roaming which has the advantage of working with all versions of NaturallySpeaking; not just the professional ones. You'll find a step-by-step on this process in the previously mentioned Quick Tips when you look up “thumb”. 3. You can simply copy your user profile from one computer to another. As you have probably already surmised, you'll find a step by step on this when you look up “copying”. However, if you want to get the most out of NaturallySpeaking we recommend upgrading to Dragon Medical 10 which we found to be about 20% more efficient because of the elimination of the Results Box time lag and the formatting fixes. Tom, are there ongoing charges with DNS ver10 Medical? Is it a one time purchase or is there a license to use it embedded in AC? I watched Brian Cotner demonstrate DNS at our first users conference and I have always wanted to try it again. I have often wondered if I really need the medical version since I mostly expect to use it for documenting HPI and I could simply type in the few, true medical terms that might come up.

DNS Preferred 10 will not even function when an AC window is open. In version 10, Nuance disabled the option to use anything except DNS Medical when dictating into an EMR. Nevertheless, since I moved from DNS 9.5 Preferred to DNS 10 Medical a few months ago, I have been very pleased with the increase in speed and accuracy, especially with the medical vocabulary. The $900 price tag for the "Small Practice" medical version was painful, but considering my increased efficiency, together with improvements in AC version 4, I consider it worthwhile. Once you pay for the software, there are no further ongoing charges (until version 11!)

Martin, There are no ongoing charges for Dragon Medical 10 other than lengthy tech support, command writing etc. Most docs find the combination of our training manual and a good forum such as this one or my own NaturallySpeaking forum to be adequate. Brian Cotner was an avid user of Dragon Medical and had quite a few posts on the topic in relation to Amazing Charts on both of the above mentioned forums under bcmd. The last time I corresponded with him he was having great success. Unfortunately you will need Dragon Medical 10 for your purposes. However, I can offer a piece of advice and a possible workaround. On the advice end you can get yourself a copy of DNS Pro 9.5, upgrade to Medical 10 and then dump the Pro 9.5 on Ebay recouping some of your upgrade cost. A workaround would be to simply use Pro 9.5 coupled with our Version 10 specialty medical vocabs. One way or the other you can accomplish what you want and save lot $ of money. If you have any more questions post them here on the forum and I’ll prvide the answers.

The meat of the udate is 64 bit compatibility but there will be some other very cool features added in as well.

Martin,
As an update to your pricing questions Nuance is sponsoring a major $ale on the entire NaturallySpeaking 10.1 product line from DNS Preferred on up. Many prices have been slashed by 50% but the DNS Medical 10 sale pricing ends on April 30 at midnight. If you're considering purchasing Dragon Medical Small Practice Edition or Dragon Medical, you should consider doing so before May 1 when the price goes up $300 everywhere. Sale pricing on DNS Preferred, Pro and Legal is good through June 30.
