I am a rheumatologist using AC for over a year now. I send reports to my referring physicians every time but do not always have data for Past Medical History, Social History, Family History each time I see a patient for follow up. Also, on follow up visits, I usually just obtain the pain scale, BP and weight and do not check PR, BMI, Height... When I generate the progress note report, I find the empty spaces(under the headings mentioned above) annoying. Is there anyway, I could customize these reports to not include certain headings. This would really streamline the reports and make them look better. Thanks,

Ray, I know what you mean, as a Neurologist, I just attach my note to the cover page when I send out follow up letters and the empty spaces don't look that great but as far as I am aware of, there is no way to change that. The alternative, if you want to do the extra work, is moving the particular pieces of data (such as HPI, meds, etc.) in the letter writer, to the letter you are sending out--unfortunately, this takes way too much time, in my opinion, so I quit doing that. Francisco is correct, those empty spaces are annoying. He is also correct that it is simply not possible to remove the empties.

If I had to pick my top five annoying features or non-features of AC, probably the most annoying would be the overall formatting.
Before I bought AC (which was a great move -- overall still the best little EMR ever), I designed a progress note program using HotDocs. It produced a very nice little note.
I remember when I briefly used Logician Internet which became Medscape Encounter before it crashed taking everyone's data with it. To this day, NO EMR can hold a candle to it's formatted note. To hell with good documentation. There wasn't a lawyer or judge in the land who could see past its beauty. Wait, did I just say "There wasn't a lawyer or judge in the land?" Too bad it isn't, "There ISN'T a lawyer or judge in the land." Wouldn't that be nice.
It's obvious to me that formatting isn't extremely important to Jon. I am not saying I can program anywhere near as well as Jon, actually I can't at all. But, if I did, 50% of my time would go into how the notes and letters looked.
It would be easy to have the letter writer open in Word, and I imagine the note could as well.

AC is an awesome li'l EMR. I used Logician in my residency......it's HORRIBLE. Did I say HORRIBLE, no I meant ATROCIOUS, DISGUSTING, REPULSIVE. Not only does Logician stink to use, it's formatting is about 300% WORSE than AC's. You can't even read their damn notes from Logician.
So the AC EMR has a few ugly features, remember the simplicity is what makes it what it is.....an AWESOME EMR.
I would like the letter writer to use MSWord instead.
