Has anyone looked into Google Health? It talks about uploading CCR data directly into your EMR. Patients can fill in patient information which the Doc can download. Kinda like a free patient portal. Is this something AC folks need to look into, or have the AC folks already looked into this. Just wondering because I met with the Quest rep the other day specifically to discuss the AC bridge. She said that was a piece of cake to set up, but recommended I look at google health because Quest is already a partner with Google. Stated something about I had the ability to post the patients results directly from quest on to the google health site for the patient to see. I have not gotten that far in my review of the website to see that capability yet. I know a lot of you guys out there are very savvy with this kinda thing. Thoughts? here is the site http://www.google.com/intl/en/health/about/index.html

i second this (kinda late bump, i know)--if there was an easy way to unify the data we have, it'd be first step away from proprietary formats and programs (and exorbitant 'access' fees some charge). i'm still trying to find out if i can get directly involved with this.

You know, everybody + their mother is coming up with these personal health records. But there a many problems with them. To name just 2:
It's not the actual doctor's medical record on the patient. So, when the patient wants to hide something from their next MD or whomever, they just edit it out. This could be on anything from a diagnosis that they aren't ready to deal with (depression, anxiety disorder) to just bad behavior that they don't want known (like 15 notes in the chart stating "patient failed to show for their appt. today.)Some are inconvient, while others are dangerous for the patient and, who knows with these slick mp lawyers today, could actually put a future doctor's license at risk. IF the doctor wants to put their own not in there, they cannot.
2. From a practicle standpoint, labs, for example, would need to go to 2 places. In the EMR, and out to Google (or wherever). Posting them directly from Quest provides the results with no explanation. Now, I dont know about anyone else's patients, but ours can't interpret them. Dr. C writes a note on the imported labs in AC. So its THAT lab that needs to be sent, not the one directly from Quest. So, now we need to download it from quest, and then upload it to Google. Granted, we do this with RelayHealth if the patient sends in a lab result request, but some prefer to come in. Plus, its not ALL of them. What happens when 3 patients want you to send it to Google, 5 more want Yahoo (when/if they do one) and 6 more want you to send it to Aetna's? I just see a ton of more "requirements" for PCPs w/o compensation.

It will take a while for the standardization to fill out. But it is a good thing
