The CDC just changed the guidelines and the over-65 are to receive a Prevnar-13. The same pneumo admin code applies. Not sure what they are reimbursing, just started. Cost of Prevnar-13 is over $130.

My understanding is that PCV-13 is recommended only for adults c significant immunocompromising conditions such as HIV and chemotherapy, though it is licensed for all adults. The ACIP is still recommending pneumovax for most adults 65 and older or those c chronic conditions such as DM, etc. I would stick c pneumovax for adults for now, unless I am unaware of a recommendation more recently than the June ACIP meeting.
