Hey tceg, that's an interesting problem. Considering Ketan's comment, try this: While looking at the Current Encounter tab select File > Addendum. If you change the subject to X-ray/radiology/whatever you might get something similar to the behavior you want.
Then check the past encounters, it'll be listed separately like an encounter.
