It would be really cool if they had different versions of the ICD-9 list. Like:
FP minimal
FP moderate
FP max
Peds minimal
Peds moderate
Peds max
You could always add and you could always upgrade or downgrade. I use about 100 ICD-9 codes over and over, but obviously, there are some I will need that are outside that realm. But, I tried to find Closed Head Injury yesterday. This is a not uncommon diagnosis. But, instead, it comes up with LITERALLY about 50 diagnoses which are something like:
Closed fracture of vault of skull without mention of intracranial injury. Does that just mean that someone didn't mention it? But there were hundreds just like this.
Finally, my coder found the ICD-9 code for Closed Head Injury.
It is difficult sometimes when you are in a room trying to order an abdominal ultrasound and looking for a code for protuberant abdomen. IMd my coder and five minutes later, I had the code.
