I assume when a company won't tell me at least something about the prices, that they want to tie me up in a long discussion convincing me that I must have them, so that any price they state is acceptible. Or they must come out and demo it first. Or...there is always something. Having experience as a Account Mgr and consulting Director, I am familiar with "that" side of the disclose pricing situation too.

This is endemic in the s/w industry, and the medical software industry is worse in this respect than others. Your competitors will always know your price, so that is not a reason.
