Another thought:

I know that I have recommended Brothers, etc. and you can't go wrong with the ScanSnap for lots of scanning, but if you are starting fresh and thinking of an MFP (Multifunction Printer), you may want to go a bit more high end with something like a Muratec, Xerox and Toshiba -- even HP. You could go with a local distributor who could warranty it for you. It's nice to have someone out within two hours to fix it.
