My rule of thumb when buying laptops is "buy the best processor you can afford." Did you check the Dell Outlet Store?

A laptop is a 3 year machine, unlike a desktop, you cannot upgrade the processor, so buy one that will give you good computing power for 3 years. Get the least amount of RAM from the manufacturer, you can upgrade for cheap from Crucial.com

I use McAfee for Server and WorkStation.
