I know that probably I'm the only one here that gives a hoot but hey the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburn Pengins are about to start the third OT period, they are on the verge of playing two full hockey games in one night... Awesome, my hats off to both teams as well as my brothers in the stripes who have to chase them up and down the ice into the wee hours of the morning...

It the Stanley Cup Finals, it doesn't get much better than this.... smile

Out here in the country, Paul, we don't have ice hockey, only horse hockey, and horse hockey doesn't have many enthusiasts. wink

And I actually have three in-line mens games to officiate myself tonight, damn! And there is a real chance that the Cup will be on the ice tonight too... Damn. There is just nothing else in sports that can compare to the "Stanley Cup Finals".

And all those other wanna be trophys from some of the other leagues, they are just so toy. They're just not "The Cup". It's the cup man.

"Game On!!!"

I live in Iowa now, but, I grew up in Connecticut. It seems like there was a sport at our High School called hockey.....ice hockey? No, field hockey. Yeah, the girls wore skirts and ran up and down the field. Good athletes, I don't remeber anything about triple overtime though.

Bert,
Thanks. Actually I cleaned up and went out to the car, turned on the AC to cool off after the games, and turned on the Sports Radio just in time to hear them award the Conn Smithe Trophy (MVP of the Playoffs) and then give 'em the cup.

And with just seconds left to go, Pittsburg just barely didn't tie it up again, just as they did the other night to sent it to over time again. Good Series. Two good skilled talented skating creative teams. It was fun to watch. They both certainly deserved to be there.

Now if I wasn't skating at all this summer, I would be going thru di-tox soon. But instead I've got a NYS officials's Super Seminar to prepare for coming up in mid July. Two classes and two ice sessions each day for three days... It's great, they are holding the Bantam state team try-outs at the same time and place. So we do all this class work and drills and powerskating earlier in the day, and then was all take turns doing a period or two of these really good teen level games to work on what we have learned and to be evaluated on all our chops.

It's like going to training camp for three days. Last one I did we had one of the best powerskating teachers I have even had the pleasure to be beaten to a pulp by. He was a NHL level official, could have even stuck with it, he wasn't being phased out or asked to leave. Instead he decided he always wanted to be a cop, and so he went thru the academy and became a Washington DC cop. Sucessful pro level official, to become target practice in one of the toughest police forces in the nation. He has thighs the size of tree trunk, I swear. Goalie legs. One night when I have more time I'll have to tell you all about how he got sick and kept instructed us none the less. Oh this is all unpaid, pure volunteer too. Great guy. USA Hockey!

I'll have just turned 47 before I go and will be skating with lots of teens and young adults... Wish me luck. What ever doesn't kill you, right?
