There do seem to be some improvements in V12 with regard to the "favorites" in the eRx module. I have just gone from V11.1 to 12, so maybe some of these are older and others know about them, but to me they are new.

1. When selecting a medication from the "Current Medications" list on the left, the fields on the right are populated with the full sig of your last prescription. No more hovering over the old one to remind yourself of the actual sig.

2. Favorites can finally be customized. In particular, you can delete the ones you do not want. Type in the name of a new medication and the favorites previously saved are at the top of the list as you continue to type. There is a little red x at the right, and if you select it, the favorite is deleted. (I have found it hugely annoying that 5 or more favorites show up for a given med, cluttering the screen and diluting the advantage of having favorites at all. Now I can keep the one or two sigs I want).

3. I think that favorites are added by default after you prescribe the medication, though I cannot verify for sure how the selection is made. It would be nice to have a button "add this rx/sig as a favorite". (Hoping the new way they are added beats the old system where no one could explain exactly how a favorite got on the list - apparently by some algorithm based on how often you used the med and the sig).

Not huge changes, but welcome ones.

Thanks for highlighting the favorites feature, I will check that out.
Agree that overall there are improvements.
A bug in my previous version 11.1 that did not update my med list when renewing meds is finally resolved.
I do miss the date box, as I sometimes like to manipulate the date for the record.
The migration is not as painful as I expected based on comments from others, in fact Kudos to AC for the interface.
As mentioned in another post, the workflow for updating medications when importing a report from another provider requires more clicks now, but AC is aware.
I am hopeful that the small bugs in the new version will be improved, but overall I am pleased.

I agree that there are some improvements, AC overall is working on getting better, in my opinion.

1. This is a nice change,. The one thing I miss is the older system usually had some form of autofill for the "Disp # " when it came to things like inhalers, creams etc. This is no longer available.

2. Favorites is only partially customizable. The "Add to Favorites" box is automatically checked but does not work. The prescribed medications are still not saved to favorites. It is still working off the old algorithm. What you are seeing is Version 11.1 changes. The V11 change was where if the sig for a medication in your favorites was changed then the new sig was also saved as a favorite. Thus you have 2,3,4,5 or however many favorites of the same med. The red box to delete is nice. You still can not save to favorites or go in and manually change favorites. This is a known issue with AC and hopefully will be fixed with the next version.

3. I think 2 answers 3! Thanks, JBS I agree, small improvements but a step in the right direction. I added a picture of the "Add to Favorites" check box but it is only there to look good. OK maybe it is the reason you get multiples of the same med in your favorites.

Yes, but as someone who is eighth in the state at prescribing ADHD meds (including group practices), the program does not make prescribing them easier. Yes, you can prescribe directly from the eRX window but the popup for the date to fill is really screwing up my work flow. I don't know how to get around it although I do. I thought it was going to put it in automatically like other EMRs. It takes out ADHD in the note section (at least on mine) everytime which is not only time consuming, but really hurts patients care as I get calls from pharmacists now on at least 1 in 8 that don't have the needed diagnosis. You also have to put the number of days the medication is for.

All in all, needs to be completely redone. I think this will be my number one request over and over. To fix the controlled substances especially for ADHD meds.

Thanks ACZ for the post! See my post above about the favorites. hope it helps. WOW, glad the migration/mapping process has not been as bad as you expect based off the posts. I do feel it has gotten better after the initial shock but man for me it was a pain. Are you solo? How long have you been with AC? I ask just because I do feel it is worse for those on AC longer or with multiple providers. Just a hunch.

That bug in V11 with not renewing and placing the med in the chart was annoying, I am glad that got fixed.

The Date box is still there just not as obvious. I added a screen shot. Click on the green clock next to the pt's picture. A pop up box comes up and you can change what you need. Remember this is all logged by AC in the background if ever need for legal reasons.

Updating medications is being looked at by AC tech. I feel they will have something for us with a newer version that will make it easier. I want to be able to print a med list from the chart wihtout having to go to the summary page or add to the plan section of the chart. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Bert,
Be pt this is long.
Once you reset in the chart it shouldn't keep erasing the ADHD (diagnosis). If it does you are going to have to inactivate and rewrite as a new prescription. I know because in V11.1 it would automatically fill in the "course days: when you filled in the "days supply". So days supply is required by law, when you did this and the course days filled in then the med would be inactivated at the end of the course days. No way to get around it. Now if you reactivate the med the same problem comes up, course days is filled in. I can clear it and send the med and then when I look back at the chart it is filled in again thus inactivated at the end of the course days. The medication hs to be completely rewritten from the ACTIVE screen of Current Medications. If you use the Inactive or ALL then the medication will be reactivated with the same problems. I am sure the ADHD problem in the sig is due to the same type of bug I have experienced. Try writing a new script and see if that works. I am not sure about the date box. I see it is there but not sure how to use it either so can't help with that one.
