We use LabCorp, and have the labs imported into the chart. I am told that they are imported to the assigned NPI number and therefore that providers inbox and that we CANNOT change that. We wanted to have the nurses receive the labs and take appropriate (and often times faster) action according to a set of standing orders.
Has anyone figured out a solution to having nurses review labs? I realize this is a very specific issue, and perhaps everyone would consider having nurses sorting labs as an issue; but it’s better than our current situation (labs that may not get reviewed for 2-4 weeks).
Looking for brainstorming! Thanks!

Currently, your NPI number is documented in your user account. It is in a field that is marked in blue so it seems important. What happens if you remove that? Does it affect anything?

I do not see a way to do this. It is a good question. I thought I was the only one that got behind on labs. Would be nice if you could have the message go to more than one person. Another idea would be for the labs to come in to a general inbox like the nursing inbox where all of the nursing staff and providers could log in and see.
Bert, wonder what would happen if you put the NPI number in the nurses user profile?

This may be alarmist, but off the top of my head, but could be seen as fraudulently assisting your non-MD's to illegal prescribe? (Obviously not your intent).

I wondered that as well. But it does seem logistically dodgy. But also - I’m tired of responding to patients that the provider is supposed to look at their labs in a reasonable amount of time - and they haven’t. Like weeks. Over a month at times.

I think if you put the NPI number in and not the license or DEA you would not have an issue with the prescribing. Plus in AC for the users "Level of Access" you set what each user is able to do for the practice. Still not sure that just the NPI number will make the Lab message come in to that persons mailbox.

It wouldn’t document that information anywhere in the patient chart, right? I can’t imagine that it would, but just thinking through “oh crap” scenarios.
Also if it will only allow one import inbox, what happens when it comes across 2 of them?

We could use some AC technical help here. Mark@harris... are you out there?
The question is: how are labs coming in through the interfaces (e.g. LabCorp) directed to an inbox? Is there a way to redirect them to another box or a group box?
